Scallion Pancakes

Chinese classic, awesome both as a quick snack or a whole meal!

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/3 cold water
  • 1½ cup thinly chopped scallions
  • 1 tbsp 5 spice powder


  1. Pour flour and salt into bowl, make a hole in the middle and pour hot water in there, then let it sit covered with a wet cloth for 10 minutes.
  2. Add cold water and mix. form into a ball and cover for 5 minutes.
  3. Knead until smooth and then let sit covered for 20-30 minutes more.
  4. Divide dough into 4 parts, and roll out, brush oil on there and sprinkle with 5 spice powder and scallions
  5. Roll into a cylinder, then form a snail and roll that one out again
  6. Fry for 2-3 minutes with a little oil then for 1-2 min on the other side.
  7. Cut into wedges and serve with Sweet Chili sauce.
